Members of the UNM community:
Through the United Way of Central New Mexico, UNM's faculty and staff have demonstrated unprecedented generosity and the desire to change lives and help those in need. Our theme this year is "UNM Lives United." There's nothing more powerful than a caring community working together and your United Way contributions represent a true commitment to the communities UNM serve.
With the assistance of UNM's United Way honorary campaign chairs Doug Brown, Dean of Anderson School of Business; Paul Krebs, Vice President of Athletics; Steve McKernan, Vice President of Hospital Operations; and Nancy Ridenour, Dean of College of Nursing, we have set UNM's goal for this year at $1 million. Last year, nearly 2,000 UNM and UNMH faculty and staff contributed through United Way. This year, we ask for your help to increase our UNM participation.
As you consider your gift to United Way, please remember you can designate the Community Fund or any nonprofit to receive your gift. You can also give to UNM's excellent departments and programs. Your contribution directly to UNM helps us ensure, to paraphrase William Yeats, "education is not filling a bucket, but lighting a fire ." The important action is to combine your gift with other UNM faculty and staff donors to have a lasting impact in our local community.
We ask you to consider making a contribution. Whether it is through a $5 monthly payroll deduction, or something larger, your gift makes a difference.
If you're currently giving through a monthly payroll deduction, your contribution will automatically rollover. If you'd like to increase your contribution, change your designation, or make adjustments, please go online or fill out and return the enclosed pledge form. You can also visit my.unm.edu to donate online.
With great appreciation,
David J. Schmidly
President
P.S. Please go online to my.unm.edu or fill out the pledge form or give your pledge form to your department coordinator or send to the University Controller's Office, MSC01 1300 by December 17, 2009. Thank You!
